Last night's party

The Bulgarian staff threw a party last night to honor (belatedly) Saint George’s Day. It raged:

Adam: Papa. PAPA! I would like to go to that party AGAIN.

Possibly related: he ate his weight in ice cream.

Another best year…

…the third one in a row.

"Ooooh dark!"

This picture has been in the can for some time, but just today we realized that it’s in fact Hallowe’en, so we thought it would be appropriate. It was either this or Skully:

And since he shares a nickname and a not-so-passing resemblance to half the guys I went to college with, the choice was obvious.

Anniversary

My organizational skills lately have been not-so-good. Projects pile up: the new AirPort blinks amber accusingly at me, the BITWRATHPLOOB glowers from a shelf in the kitchen, demanding to be boxed up, and now I find that I have let an important anniversary pass with no word.

This week marks exactly four years since I drove [...]

Yet more evidence…

…that I don’t deserve her. Yesterday was Magda’s name day:

Today is National Sorry Day in Australia. This is not what you may think.

Sorry, honey!

Here’s last year’s mention, featuring an adorable old picture of her.
Today is also Mother’s Day in Poland:

Día de los Caídos por Malvinas

Six years ago this week I arrived in a little town on the Pampas of Argentina. San Jorge was small and remote enough that I was regarded as something of an oddity, so during the first several days following my arrival I underwent frequent interrogations on a variety of topics. These invariably touched on comparative [...]

December 6, 2005

T-Bone made this quick sketch to illustrate Adam’s sleeping posture one year ago today. The rectangular form represents the crib he has recently outgrown, with the short vertical line on the right being the top, or head, of the mattress. The sausage-like protrusions from the crib’s perimeter show Adam’s arms being thrust through the bars [...]

Dan Rudolfa Maistra

Today Slovenia honors Rudolf Maister, best known as the defender of Maribor. As the first world war wound down, Maister was in command of the headquarters of the region around that city, in what is now the eastern part of Slovenia. As the eventual victors prepared to redraw the map of Europe, Maister gathered around [...]

Another best year

Two years ago today Magda’s father loaded his shotgun wedding vows made me the happiest man in Nova Gorica, a title I still retain, although that guy on Kidričeva with the lucky ham is a close runner-up.

Following our efficient and thrifty yet still deeply moving ceremony, we walked from the Občina, [...]
